Abstract of Study: | Malnutrition is a major public health problem worldwide. More than 250 million children less 121 than 5 years of age are underweight, stunted or wasted. Malnourished children need diets that 122 provide necessary nutrients, for growth and development. Currently Corn-Soy flour Blend 123 (CSB) fortified blended flour commonly used in treating moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) 124 favour large intake of omega 6 and negligible omega 3 fatty acids. Long chain Omega 3 fatty 125 acids are anti-inflammatory and effective in treating some inflammatory disorders. This MAMI RCT VERSION 1.1 NOV 2016 Page 6 126 proposal seeks to study how adding fish oil to CSB affects the systemic inflammation and 127 other clinical outcomes of the malnourished children child. We propose to carry out the work 128 in Kibera slum in Nairobi County. The project has potential to provide valuable information 129 that can change policy on management of acute moderate malnutrition |
